Many scientists have influenced the way we think of things today by the discovery of the atom. James Chadwick was a part of this great discovery by identifying that neutrons existed in the centre of the atom.
Chadwick was born in Cheshire, England on the 20th of October, 1891. With his father starting up a laundry business in Manchester, Chadwick lived with his grandmother. He attended Manchester High school, followed by graduating at Manchester University in 1908 and then finally graduated at Honours School of Physics in 1911. After all of the study that Chadwick had done, he continued his study at Cambridge under Rutherford before he ended up working alongside him further on in life. All of his studies paid off as he discovered that neutrons existed within an atom, it had no charge and had about the same mass as a proton.
James Chadwick lived for 83 years and died on the 24th of July 1974.
